
Howard B. Levy, CPA (licensed in Nevada*), served from 1983 to early 2020 as the de facto chief accounting and auditing quality control officer of two successive firms, one national and one regional, As a multi-dimensional, nationally known and respected technical resource, he has been advising other accountants, auditors and attorneys, and writing professionally, regarding accounting, auditing, SEC reporting, professional ethics and quality control matters for the large part of his distinguished career of 50+ years.
Howard is a former member of two, senior technical standard-setting committees of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), i.e., its Accounting Standards Executive Committee and its Auditing Standards Board, and of the Small Firms Task Force of the AICPA's Center for Audit Quality. Since 2011, he has served as a member of the Auditing Standards Committee of the New York State Society of of CPAs, where he also serves as a member of the Editorial Board of, and frequent contributor of sometimes award-winning content to, The CPA Journal, which reaches over over 200,000 readers bi-monthly online or in print. Howard is also former co-author and later editor of an audit manual published and used worldwide by an international association of CPA firms.
During his career, Howard has also provided professional consulting services about financial management and governance topics to many business clients including not-for-profit organizations and worked extensively with their officers, board members and executives. He served from 1987 to 1994, as national Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the ALS Association, an organization dedicated to finding the cause and cure, and providing aid to victims, of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), known as “Lou Gehrig's Disease.”
Howard is the author of The Volunteer Treasurer's Handbook: Financial Management Building Blocks for Not-For-Profit Organizations (2020 edition now available to be previewed or purchased on Amazon.com) and was also the 1993-1994 Chair of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee and a former member of the National Center for Nonprofit Boards (now BoardSource).
